Work Zone Safety Workshops 2020
Due to a confluence of events regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, we have decided to cancel these workshops.
Your registration fees will be refunded in full. Please be patient in awaiting your refund. If you don’t know the status of your refund by the April 3, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org and reference your confirmation number. The next workshops are planned to be held in 2021, and those dates will be posted here once available so that you can save the date.
About the Workshops
During March and April 2020, work zone traffic control and safety training will be offered at several Iowa venues so that workers across the state can participate conveniently. Each one-day workshop will cover the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), particularly Part 6.
The workshops consist of a general session for all participants, plus breakout sessions tailored to specific categories of work zone activities: city, county, Iowa DOT construction and contractors, Iowa DOT maintenance, and utility.
Who Should Attend
The MUTCD recommends that all workers (and their supervisors) whose duties place them on or near the traveled portion of roadways regularly complete work zone traffic control training. The Iowa Work Zone Safety Workshops provide this valuable training. It is not necessary to attend a work zone safety workshop every year; every three years is recommended. Within an organization, workers’ attendance can be rotated systematically, making it possible for staff at all levels to attend every few years.
For anyone interested in Iowa DOT specifications and requirements, the Iowa DOT construction and contractors breakout session may be most appropriate. The city breakout session may be best for workers interested in urban work zone applications. The Iowa DOT maintenance breakout sessions are specifically designed for Iowa DOT staff.
In addition to street and road agencies, contractors, consultant engineering staff, vendors, and suppliers in the road construction industry are welcome to attend and are encouraged to register for the same breakout session categories as those with whom they do business.
- To introduce the principles and convey the importance of using proper methods for safe and efficient temporary traffic control at work sites.
- To examine specific applications relevant to situations routinely encountered by city, county, contractor, Iowa DOT, and utility crews.
- To reduce motor vehicle traffic crashes at road work sites, resulting in greater safety for highway users and workers alike.
This program has been approved for .55 CEU. The cost is $25 per person and is non-refundable. You may request CEU’s and pay the fee during the registration process. You will receive a CEU certificate after the event.
Substitutions can be made any time. Cancellations must be made no later than 10 working days prior to the workshop date for a refund of your registration fee and are subject to a $15 cancellation fee. No refund within 10 days of workshop. Please contact Registration Services at email@example.com.
