Harnessing the Power of Community Engagement for Health
DESCRIPTION
Join Iowa Public Health Association for a dynamic 6-hour pre-conference* workshop designed to equip you with the knowledge and strategies to strengthen civic participation for better community health outcomes.
Featuring Jeanne Ayers of Healthy Democracy Healthy People, you’ll explore the connection between civic engagement and health through interactive discussions, small-group activities, and insights from experienced community leaders. Learn how to build effective partnerships, use data and storytelling to drive action, dispel misinformation without alienating audiences, and develop impactful outreach campaigns. Whether you’re a public health professional, a community leader, or advocate (e.g. vaccines, food systems, housing), this workshop will provide practical tools to create meaningful change.
Lunch will be provided and continuing education credits will be available.
*You do not need to be registered for the Public Health Conference of Iowa to attend this workshop.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Attendees will gain knowledge on the relationship between civic participation and community health outcomes
- Attendees will be able to identify key elements of building a campaign to promote civic engagement for health
- Attendees will gain skills in organizing data and narrative to create robust health education messages

IEHA Water Well Workshop
In this workshop DNR will focus on permitting issues, understanding well logs, how to perform assessments. SHL will discuss the well contaminants we commonly see, help you interpret lab results and treatment options and concerns, HHS will be there to discuss the Private Well grant updates and scenarios often found in the field related to grant eligibility. Immediately following the workshop until 5 pm HHS will be available to answer and help people submit their grant application (bring your laptop).
Lunch is included and 5+ hours of CEU’s all for $75
Open to members and non-members.
