Annual Risk Assessment: A Key to Program Success

Ms. Caffery is currently a member of the APIC Board of Directors serving as a director at-large. She is currently the chair of the APIC Ethics Committee, a past chair of the APIC Professional Development Committee, and served as a member of the APIC Competency Revision Task Force.  She is a clinical editor for the APIC Text-On-line, and as a contributing author to the CIC Certification Study Guide. She has presented at both state and national conferences on multiple infection prevention and control topics.

She maintains certification in Infection Prevention and Control through CBIC and in Medical-Surgical Nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In 2016, she received recognition as an APIC Fellow.

Angel Mueller, MPH, CIC, FAPIC
Angel Mueller, MPH, CIC, FAPIC, is the System Director of Infection Prevention at UnityPoint Health. She has been an Infection Preventionist since 2009, Certified in Infection Prevention and Control since 2011 and an APIC Fellow since 2017. She has served as Education Chair and President of the Eastern Iowa APIC Chapter, assisted in planning multiple Infection Prevention Conferences in the state of Iowa and was the recipient of the 2019 Dorothy A. Rasley Iowa Infection Preventionist of the Year Award. She was a member of the APIC Professional Development Committee from 2018 through 2023 and served as Chair of the Committee in 2022 and 2023. Through her work on the Professional Development Committee, Angel helped develop the updated APIC IP Competency Model and was a participating author of the article introducing the model. Angel is passionate about disseminating the competency model and supporting professional development for Infection Preventionists throughout the world.  

Brief Description
This interactive workshop will focus on how to conduct an annual infection prevention risk assessment, applicable to any healthcare setting, and how to use information from the risk assessment to develop an infection prevention and control plan.

Objectives

  1. Describe the need for and importance of completing an annual infection prevention risk assessment.
  2. Complete an annual infection prevention risk assessment.
  3. Utilize a risk assessment to develop an annual infection prevention plan.
