Sexual Violence Prevention & Disaster

Monica Goedken is the Violence Prevention Coordinator and the Rape Prevention and Education (RPE)Program Director with the Iowa Department of Public Health. In this role, she collaborates with multi-sector organizations and community members to prevent sexual violence and improve community responses with those impacted by intimate partner violence and sexual violence. She is a trainer and technical assistance provider for organizations who wish to ensure their policies, protocols, and practices support survivors of IPV & SV and their workplace culture.

Disasters are destabilizing. Data shows disasters increase risk factors for being exposed to sexual violence. In this session, we will review data and share resources from the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. Participants will leave with the ability to incorporate sexual violence prevention into their disaster preparedness plans.
