Dr. Jaume Coma

Dr. Jaume Coma received his DVM from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Barcelona, Spain in 1990, and his PhD in swine nutrition from Iowa State University in 1995. After graduation, he joined Vall Group, the largest European pig integrator where he has developed his professional career for the last 25 years. His main objective is to provide evolving cost-effective solutions to the different challenges of the company with the combination of applied swine nutrition, sound practical research, economics and sustainable profitability. To support these objectives, Jaume and his colleagues at Vall have partnered with faculty at local universities to undertake and publish innovative and foundational research in swine nutrition. This long-term relationship between industry and university has led to 30 R&D public-funded projects, more than 80 articles published, and several M.Sc. and Ph. D. dissertations. For those unfamiliar with Vall Group, it is a family owned enterprise established in 1956. It currently has 220,000 sows, making it the 12th largest pork producer in the world. Vall produces 5.5 million market hogs per year, 80 million head of poultry and 2.5 million tonnes of feed. It also operates several abattoirs and meat processing plants in a fully vertical integration model.
