PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases – Pink Book Course will be held November 1 and 2, 2023 at Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines, IA. This live two-day course provides a comprehensive review of immunization, vaccine-preventable diseases and respective vaccines. The course will provide the most up-to-date immunization information from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) including:
- General Best Practice Guidelines on Immunization
- Vaccine recommendations for pertussis, haemophilus influenzae type b, influenza, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, pneumococcal, polio, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, meningococcal, human papillomavirus, zoster, and COVID-19
- Vaccine Safety
- Current Issues
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of the course, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the ACIP General Best Practice Guidelines on Immunization.
- Identify 2 vaccine storage and handling best practices.
- Identify 2 vaccine administration best practices.
- Identify a communication technique that can be used when discussing vaccines.
- For each vaccine-preventable disease, identify those for whom routine immunization is recommended.
- For each vaccine-preventable disease, identify the correct immunization schedule.
- Describe 2 clinical considerations when administering vaccines.
- Locate current immunization resources to increase knowledge of the team’s role in program implementation for improved team performance.
- Implement disease detection and prevention health care services (e.g., smoking cessation, weight reduction, diabetes screening, blood pressure screening, immunization services) to prevent health problems and maintain health.
