Threats to Groundwater: Protecting Iowa’s Precious Resource
Description: Iowa has always been blessed with adequate amounts of groundwater. But new and larger demands on water are putting our aquifers in peril. Iowa laws and regulations, and how the laws and regulations are administered, have not risen to the challenge. My presentation would discuss these issues and how to confront the challenge created by new demands on water resources.
I will discuss how to amend Iowa statutes on water withdrawal, how to improve Iowa Department of Natural Resources rules and procedures, and how Iowans can effect change. I will use specific examples to demonstrate these points.
