From Eroding Banks to Economic Engine: How a Sponsored Project Turned Prairie Creek into Maquoketa’s Next Destination

Join representatives from the City of Maquoketa, Jackson County Conservation, Friends of Prairie Creek, and the project engineering consultant for a one-hour panel discussion on how Prairie Creek Recreation Area evolved from an eroding stream corridor into a multi-partner recreation and water quality success story. The panel will explore how Sponsored Project funding and Destination Iowa grant dollars were paired to support stream stabilization, trails, river access, disc golf, paddling, fishing, and long-term economic vitality. Panelists will share lessons learned from funding strategy, public engagement, design, permitting, construction, and post-construction stewardship that other Iowa communities can adapt for their own water quality and recreation projects.
