Evaluation of historical bacteria records and current sources of fecal waste in the Little Sioux River

Description: Results of evaluation of microbial water quality data from the Little Sioux River will be shared along with information on the sources of fecal contamination using genetic source tracking techniques.

Author Bios: Claire Hruby joined Drake University’s Department of Environmental Science and Sustainability in 2023 after 20 years working for the Iowa DNR. Dr. Hruby and her students are working in multiple watersheds around the state to identify sources of pollution, evaluate risks to recreators and impacts on aquatic life, and target solutions.

Alex Colby is a junior in the Environmental Science and Sustainability Department at Drake University. She loves sampling and lab work, but her passion is understanding the diversity of microorganisms in aquatic environments.
