Boettcher Family Farms, located among the Iowa Great Lakes in Dickinson County, is run by Emily and her father John, who farm 650 acres of corn, soybeans, and alfalfa alongside a beef cattle herd. John introduced no-till and strip-till practices more than 20 years ago and has planted cover crops for over a decade; Emily, who returned to the farm in 2009 and learned the operation hands-on, has become integral to its management. Together they’ve maintained productivity while continuing to improve practices that protect the nearby water bodies.
