Objective:
This webinar builds upon the Alcohol Policy Essentials webinar (November 29, 2022)and provides greater detail on how practitioners can plan for and implement effective policy strategies. Participants learn how to identify model policies and their essential components. This training will define key ingredients to successful policy development across substances and settings, such as the importance of leadership buy-in, understanding the opposition, and ensuring stakeholder buy-in. Prevent strategies to be highlighted as examples will include responsible beverage server training, alcohol advertising restrictions, and community event restrictions.
Presenter:
Maureen Busalacchi is Director of the Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Project. She has decades of experience in public health policy including serving as an alder in her local community. She currently is co-chair of Wisconsin Public Health Association’s Public Affairs Committee. She ran Smoke-Free Wisconsin and lead successful smoke-free air and tobacco tax campaigns. Maureen is a frequent presenter at state and national conferences on advocacy, systems change and public health issues. Recently, she served at the Advancing a Healthier Endowment at MCW as a program manager advising in policy and systems change.
