Integrating Harm Reduction in Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery

Dr. Radke is a physician at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He works in the Emergency Department but is also a Medical Toxicologist and Addiction Medicine provider.

Deborah Krauss is the Harm Reductionist & Program Director for IHRC. Mom to two children & a dog. A person that has not used substances that I have had unhealthy relationships with including opiates, alcohol, & stimulants.

Andrea Weber is a native Iowan who currently works at the University of Iowa as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Psychiatry.  She is an addiction medicine specialist and focusing on integrating harm reduction principles into healthcare.  Andrea also serves at the Board Chair for the Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition.

 

Integrating Harm Reduction in Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery

This session will introduce the audience to harm reduction principles and how harm reduction can be safely and effectively integrated into community and healthcare settings.

At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Define harm reduction as both a social movement and philosophy of care.
  • Creating low-barrier access to harm reduction services and substance use treatment in both community and healthcare settings.
  • Integrate harm reduction principles into treatment plans that include medications for addiction treatment (MAT).
