Ethics for Clinical Behavioral Health Professionals
Session Description: This presentation will provide substance abuse counselors in Iowa with a comprehensive understanding of the Iowa Board of Certification’s Code of Ethics. It will emphasize ethical best practices, equip counselors with tools for ethical decision-making, and outline proper procedures for reporting and handling ethics violations to ensure high-quality client care.
Learning Objectives:
- To ensure that substance abuse counselors in Iowa have a thorough understanding of the Iowa Board of Certification’s Code of Ethics.
- To promote ethical best practices among counselors to enhance the quality of care provided to clients.
- To equip counselors with the knowledge and tools needed to properly report and possibly handle ethics violations.

Sharaine Webster, LISW, IADC, is an assistant clinical professor at the University of Iowa School of Social Work and the owner of a private mental health practice. She is a licensed clinical social worker and certified alcohol and drug counselor with advanced training from the University of Iowa and the University of New England. Sharaine currently serves on the Board of Directors for both the NASW Iowa Chapter and the Iowa Board of Certification. She is dedicated to educating mental health professionals across the Midwest on substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, human sexuality, and wellness.
