Foundation 2 Law Enforcement Co-Response Model

Drew Martel (LISW, CADC) is The Director of Crisis Services at Foundation 2 in Cedar Rapids, where he has overseen all of the agencies crisis services, including the Law Enforcement Co-Response program. Drew was a part of the initial team from Foundation 2 and Cedar Rapids Police Department who wrote and received the first grant through the Bureau of Justice Administration to develop and pilot a co-responder in Eastern Iowa. In addition to his work at Foundation 2, Drew is a site surveyor for The American Association on Suicidology and works as a therapist in private practice at Meadowlark Psychiatric in North Liberty.

In the last decade there has been a wide array of services designed to support law enforcement in interactions with individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use related crisis. The Foundation 2 Co-Response model, developed in 2016, and now implemented in seven law enforcement agencies in Eastern Iowa is one such model. Join us as we present on the core components of our co-response models, from planning to implementation.
