This session will explore how prevention specialists can consider developmental issues, psychosocial factors,  critical life events, and substance use trajectories in planning for and implementing health promotion. Historically adult populations (emerging adults, individuals in midlife and older adults) been challenging to reach with prevention strategies. A closer look at barriers and facilitators for engaging adults can increase our success.  This session will introduce multi-dimensional individual and community solutions to promote safe and healthy transitions.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will:

  1. Describe the role of psychosocial factors in health behavior change for adult populations;
  2. Describe how alcohol use trajectories develop across the lifespan, how early and later life events influence these trajectories, and their associations with health and well-being;
  3. List the conditions, resources or behaviors that support or impede change with adults and impact the success of health promotion and behavioral health interventions.
