Prevention Along the Continuum

Session Description
This breakout will take a deep dive into the role of primary prevention in the behavioral health continuum, the science that supports primary prevention and lessons learned in the translation between research and practice.


  1. Describe the unique nature of primary prevention and its role in the behavioral health continuum.
  2. Identify the common touch points of preventing any negative outcomes in substance use, mental health, or related issues in individuals, families and communities.
  3. Review the discussion paper published by the National Academy of Medicine “Unleashing the Power of Prevention” and list ideas for how to Unleash at the state level.
