Session Descriptions

MORNING WORKSHOPS

  • Can We Measure That? The Game Show of Learning Outcomes
    • Clear and measurable learning outcomes are essential for effective program design and assessment—because ‘understand stuff’ just isn’t enough. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to transform their learning outcomes from ‘meh’ to measurable, ultimately supporting student success.
  • Excel-lent Pivots: The Art of Data Transformation
    • Pivot tables are a powerful tool available to Excel users. They allow for data to be transformed and analyzed quickly, and can often provide quick insights where more traditional analyses might take considerably more time. This session will introduce attendees to pivot tables and ways they can use them to analyze their data, including grouping, summarizing, and filtering raw data. Attendees will need a laptop and access to Excel to participate in this session.
  • Assessment Help: Because Even Superheroes Need a Sidekick
    • Got a burning assessment question? Need help figuring out how to visualize or tell the story of your data? Then this session is for you. The first 30 minutes of this session will be spent covering some basic assessment concepts and strategies, followed by open time for customized assessment help and assessment questions.  Bring your data, bring your project, bring your questions, and level up your assessment skills!
  • Numbers to Narrative, Stats to Stories
    • Numbers and statistics stemming from the assessment of a program or service are only part of the broader discussion about what was actually achieved. Data need to be placed in context, and that context must meet both practical and strategic ends that result in ensuring that the program, initiative, issue, department, or university is shown in the best light possible. Drawing on expertise from across the university, this session will provide attendees with perspectives on how to discuss or write about their work and associated outcomes with various stakeholders within and outside of the university.
  • Functions and Formulas to Manage Your Data
    • A basic Excel workshop focusing on the use of functions, formulas, and formatting.
  • DSO Strategies Audit
    • Dean of Students Office departmental staff will participate in a practical workshop to audit and evaluate strategies used to facilitate student learning. By aligning strategies with clearly defined Student Learning Outcomes, attendees will identify strengths, recognize gaps, and explore opportunities to improve the intentionality and effectiveness of their departmental work. Participants will leave the session with concrete ideas for refining existing practices or developing new ones, ensuring intentional, measurable, and impactful student learning through the curricular approach.
