Jim Nelson, PE
Iowa DOT
Jim serves as the Director of the Bridges and Structures Bureau at Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) leading a Bridge Maintenance and Inspection Section and two Bridge Project Development Sections. The Bridge Maintenance and Inspection Section inspects over 4,100 bridges on the primary roadway system and provides oversight for over 19,600 bridges on secondary and local roads. The Bridge Project Development Sections produce and oversee the production of over 100 bridges and structures designs annually at a construction cost of over $280 million. Jim is a graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Construction Engineering and Management.

Anthony (Tony) Peterson, PE
National Steel Bridge Alliance
Tony is the Bridge Steel Specialist in the Central Market for the National Steel Bridge Alliance. He represents the steel bridge industry on matters of bridge type selection, fabrication and construction. Tony’s role with NSBA is to provide technical assistance, tools and resources for steel bridges to bridge owners, designers, fabricators, university programs, and technical committees. Prior to joining the NSBA, Tony spent 30 years in the bridge consulting profession, with the last 13 years at Jacobs as a senior bridge engineer. His bridge experience includes design, rehabilitation, inspection and construction of a wide variety of structure types located throughout the USA and internationally. Tony is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states and is a FHWA certified Bridge Inspection Team Leader. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and a Master of Engineering (Structural) from Cornell University. 

Frank Russo, PE, PhD
Russo Structural Services
Frank is the founder and principal of Russo Structural Services. With over 30 years of experience in bridge engineering, he has wide-ranging experiences providing complex project support including major steel bridge design and rehabilitation. He is a trusted advisor to owners and clients nationwide. His experience includes developing training courses and materials in areas such as steel bridge analysis and design, bridge load rating, engineering for stability during construction, and fatigue and fracture for steel bridges. Frank received a Special Achievement Award from AISC in 2019 for his contributions to the advancement of knowledge regarding inspection and emergency rehabilitation of complex steel structures. He is a member of the NSBA Technical Committee, the NSBA Redundancy Task Force, Steel Bridge Task Force, and several AASHTO/NSBA Collaboration task groups. He is vice-chair of AASHTO/NSBA TG 13   – Analysis of Steel Bridges.

Brandon Chavel, PE, PhD
National Steel Bridge Alliance
Brandon is the Vice President of Bridges for the American Institute of Steel Construction and the National Steel Bridge Alliance. He has over 20 years of professional steel bridge design experience includes skewed and curved bridge analysis and design; erection and construction engineering; refined analysis; rehabilitation and repair design; and load rating. He has been a contributing researcher on several state-of-the-art projects related to the analysis and construction of horizontally curved steel girder bridges. He worked previously for Michael Baker International and HDR. Brandon earned his Bachelors, Masters, and PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh.

Ronnie Medlock, PE
High Steel Structures
Ronnie is Vice President, Technical Services, at High Steel Structures in Lancaster, PA where he is responsible for quality and is the lead technical officer. A graduate of UT Austin with BS and MS engineering degrees, Ronnie is originally from El Paso and worked for 18 years at TxDOT in fabrication inspection and structural design before joining High Steel in 2006. He chairs the NSBA Technical Committee and the AASHTO/NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration Main Committee, is a member of AREMA Committee 15 and RCSC, and is a member of committees associated with AISI and TRB.

Graham Holman
Nucor
Graham is Market Manager for Bridge & Highway and other segments within Nucor’s Plate Group. He started his career in 2013 as an Inside Sales Representative at Nucor Hertford, transitioned to the role of District Sales Manager — Mid-Atlantic for the Nucor Plate Group in 2015, and in 2017 transferred to the Pacific Northwest Territory. Most recently, Graham is a Product Manager based out of Nucor Steel Hertford, a responsibility he took on in 2018.

Genesis Structures
Provides bridge engineering, erection and demolition services. Bridge types include girder and beam structures with skews and curvature. Complex bridge types include arch, truss, cable, and moveable structures. Specialty services include barge stability analysis for large crane picks, bridge float in/out operations, and critical pick plans and rigging.

Dave Rogowski, PE
Principal, M.S. Civil Structural Kansas State University, 36 years total experience including 14 with HNTB long-span bridge design division and 20 years with Genesis Structures.

Josh Crain, PE, SE
Structural Design Engineer, M.S. Civil Engineering University of Kansas, ASCE Temporary Structures Committee, Adjunct professor University of Kansas, 14 years of experience with Genesis.
