Updates in Antibiotic Allergies

Sara May, MD, FAAAAI, FACAAI
Dr. Sara May is an Associate Professor in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). She is also the Program Director for the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Fellowship at UNMC. Her specific area of expertise is drug allergy, including antibiotic drug allergy. She continues to work closely with the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at UNMC to update antibiotic allergy guidelines and increase evidence-based treatment protocols. Working together with this team, inappropriate antibiotic use has declined at UNMC over the last few years. Collaboration with this team has led to publications as well. She provides many lectures to trainees regarding this area of allergy.



Session Description
In this session, we will review the updated drug allergy guidelines regarding antimicrobial treatments. This session will highlight the increasing availability of challenging patients to antibiotics without the need for skin testing as well as giving other antibiotics without the need of skin testing and/or challenges.
